I have vista on my newer hp computer. That was all hp offered when i bought it. I was dreading the experience. But, pleasant surprise! it's been plug and play easy, easy easy! Getting on the internet was a breeze! i must be one of the few who's happy. I had only one program (for ripping CD's - Nero) that didn't work and needed a vista patch, there was a website I went to and got what I needed - easy download - so I'm happy as a clam.

Thank you for letting me know, dandylife,

All is not lost then, but how do we know the lucky ones?
Well Vista II might be out soon. I'm not in a big rush unless this one gave me troubles. It's just getting older and I like to be prepared.

Thanks
Izzy

Dear Dandy,

Please just watch out for Vista's "disk cleanup" issue.

It's described here:   http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2162102&SiteID=17

After working okay for several months, running disk cleanup regularly, there was this issue... out of the blue!

It's important to watch the values in the columns of stuff it offers to clean, lest a complete system recovery be necessary afterward.

Love,
Carolyn

Ugh!

Thanks for the warning! I have printed out the solution just in case.

Here's what I do now (after a couple horrible critical crashes where I lost data):

I bought a 320 gb external hard drive that I keep hooked up all the time via USB and I save all my files to it.

Voila! Crash? Files are safe!

Another tip: When you order software via download, request a backup CD to be sent in the mail in case of a crash. Usually they charge an extra $5-10 for this, well worth it.

You're welcome, Dandy... and thank you for the good tips!

I don't have much valuable data, so just got a 2 gig flash drive, but I like your solution much better! Makes good sense, I think, on any pc.

You know, one thing I lost in that crash was my copy of What Makes N Tick, by Kathy Krajco... and now she's gone.
Working with the seller to have the download replaced, but sure wish I'd purchased the backup!
Next time.

Thanks again.

Carolyn
