I was flyin' today-- ROBUTUSSIN----anyone ever take it?
« on: August 13, 2008, 07:03:06 PM »
I've had this pesky cough, like it seems forever, and Dr. said just from my meds.....same with dry mouth, same with bad taste.

So I bought Robutussin and am sucking it right out of the bottle (another advantage of living alone) a teaspoon at a time, 2 tsp every 8 hours.
I take my meds in the a.m. and I bought the ROB in the p.m. and took some when I got home yesterday--all okay and another dose at bedtime--had a good second ½ of night, no coughing.

Got up this a.m., put on kettle, brushed teeth, sucked ROB, then took meds, diazepam, effexor, altace, made coffee and turned on computer and fooled around [[[[[until I was ready to leave at 1:00 pm for the Office. ]]]]] made another coffee and was feeling a bit displaced

then  I felt like I didn't belong on this earth
I was on another that  like this but there was a line around me. so I could be picked up and put anywhere.
Then I felt rather like I was dead but not gone very light-headed and not with it.
I didn't do anything weird but my mind was wave after wave after wave of thoughts I cannot remember now.

I fortunately received a phone call that kept me on line, very chatty, but brought me down a bit to have a topic......about a power chair... and when finally off I was settling a bit, guessing I was of this earth, but gingerly went down to the car and drove to the Office.

Yeppers. I drove heavy equipment under the influence of cough syrup and meds. I'm glad the police didn't stop me ask me to get out and walk a straight line. I would be in serious trouble.

I was at the Office for an Hour with Linda, yapping and chatting catching up (both of us, we're charging the hour as a meeting because a good deal of it was work) Glad I made sense and left and then off to the other side of town for some Office supplies and I knew I was still under the Influence....floating and feeling detached and not with it and I just came down around about 4:00 but took another couple of swallows....................................................and that might be the end of my cough??????
....but can take another at 12 midmight!

What about my mixing meds!!!!????? Seems it posted earlier, unfinished.

Hey Iz,

How long have you taken the diazepam?  My D works in a Pharm and said that will make you feel Loopy.  Does it do this, are you new to it.. or did it not have an effect on you before until the cough med..and call your Pharm and ask if you should be taking the two together..because she don't think you should be...

Rob makes people feel loopy but the diazepam will make you feel  more loopy... so together (stoned).. Both of them together.. well Iz... you were wasted.. (lol)

Love
Deb

Careful Iz!  I heard that is pretty addictive stuff.  We had a young man here in Iowa who killed himself and we figured out he was taking this cough medicine for just a couple months and he got strung OUT!~

Hi Iz,

I'm extra sensitive to the effects of medication.  Robitussin doesn't make me high.  However, I'm with OC, educate yourself about it.  Find a message board about it or Google side effects.  It is a ready drug for kids nowadays and they use it.  I think you may be endangering yourself by the mix.  Please be careful.

Well no one here has taken it but I have been warned.

I was prepared for that as I gave you all the ammunition to chastise me.

And all is well ! It is not a forever thing. I might not need it after tomorrow
tonight will tell about the coughin' ....or the coffin!

Hi Iz,

I have taken it many times.  I have some in my medicine cabinet now.  It doesn't make me high.  It is apparently not a danger to me, but I don't like the sound of what it did to you.   Chastised because I love you@

My doc just discussed interactions with me last week.
I am low doses of several meds, but don't like the effects and was complaining about it.

He pointed out that I take 4 drugs that affect the CNS. No wonder!
We changed the timing of one from morning to evening and I'm experiementing with doing without one.

And I asked him, 1-2-3...which one's the 4th? He said, your nightly beer.

Oh my. Almost every night in the summer anyway, I have one beer. And he says that has to count in my daily interactions of things in my body.

So be careful, dear Izz....

hiya Hops

Yep we have to think of all of it.

I take the first meds in the morning, and there are only 2 that I have to take another (as in twice a day) so my time is variable but usually with dinner.

I took  my last shot of ROB soon after I started the thread 'cause I knew it was being 'bad to me'.

It seemed to 'stop the cough' and finally give me the 'quiet' to assess my situation. I was quietly peaceful after that and gave up ROB.

Insert) I had better mention, for newbies, that this cough started after a supposed nasal infection that turned to post nasal drip and coughing, and checked with my doctor about FOUR years ago.

I was so worried that my coughing would keep my next door neighbour awake, as it started as soon as I lay down (There is a person 2 floors up who hacks and hacks some nights. It's 'far away' and I am reading, but it would be worse if right next door.)

So all is as before, like some time ago, when I mentioned my dry throat and cough were because of my meds, says my doctor. Wish I could stop them (the meds) and have the coffin stop. Now ROB has, from just a few shots, given me cough-free nights.

It is all very weird
What do you think?

Izz, you're not going to believe I'm saying this, but I actually mean it...

Neti pot.

Use it regularly and in a few weeks it'll cure the post-nasal drip.

(After the first couple of days it doesn't feel weird any more.)

Okay, Lighter....
