Interesting review of a book claiming "Sybil" and her 16 or whatever number of personalities was a fake.
If previously linked, my apologies.

Hi Mud,
Do you remember Biddy?

I am certain she truly has/had DID...

broke my heart.

I'm pretty sure that many multiples are not many, but are just a few (if not fewer than that).

I found this article interesting and it really explained to me how such a thing can happen. Her description of herselves brings it home.

I wasn't making any general statement guys, just noting that the most famous multiple of all was apparently a fake and one which prompted subsequent over-diagnosis.
I have no doubt there is probably no practical limit to the pathologies the human mind is susceptible to.

I wonder if it may be more a part of the overall trend to remove things from the DSM.  The treatment of the mentally ill has gotten worse in many ways in my lifetime, while the population seems to be growing.  In many cases mentally ill people are deprived of their rights, given no informed consent for treatments and chemically and physically restrained.  Not much progress there.  I don't Know about DID.  And even at the time, the movie seemed pretty spectacular, not to mention the degree of abuse she suffered.

Am I the Biddy you mean?  Is there more than one biddy here?  If I am -- sorry I wasn't around for awhile -- dad died, cataract surgery, lost job, blah blah blah blah, disowned by remaining family... you know the drill.  :)

Love, Biddy
