I have found help for my depression (although I will admit that I am struggling right now) is a program called Wellness Recovery Action Planning by Mary Ellen Copeland. In ways it is so basic that you find yourself going "Well Duh!" But in other ways it truly helps you set a concrete plan in action for dealing with Illness. I think that it is open enough that it could be used to address an array of life problems.
I am modifying this to include another book that is about basic ways of thinking about life. In not getting any input from my parents I don't think I learned good coping mechanisms and just basic ways to handle and deal with life. The other book is called "Don't sweat the small stuff and its all small stuff" by Richard Carlson PhD. It has wonderful little tidbits about looking at life in a more healthy fashion. I have a real need to have things spelled out for me, I guess I learn mostly through reading, so this book was really important for me. I try to help my grandchild by passing along some of these tidbits. Ways to look at things from a more positive perspective.....
