Lupita's Question
« on: December 22, 2007, 03:51:41 PM »
Lupita, I hope that you don't mind that I titled this thread with your name. If you do, I will take it down. You raised a point that is pivotal in getting over "abuse"(IMO)
I think that the main difference between people who can love themselves and those who cannot is that the first group sees their 'flaws" and failings as 'human".The second group sees the SAME flaws and failings as "bad"and "defective
I am formulating this theory,as I talk to my Aunt. What I thought was so horrible about me, she says,'Dear,it is only human."
What a bad rap I put on myself for "only being human"-----bleh                     Ami

Wow! This is in my novel several times, said in several different ways. My main character in my novel is learning that flaws, failings, and mistakes are what make us human and without them we don't grow and learn. We're not bad or defective or monsters or what have you. And part of my healing is forgiving myself for believing that way about me.

Thanks for reposting this.

Thanks Lupita.

To err is human; to forgive, divine.

Dear Sally,
I think that I found my "soul sister" in you. I can relate so well to your posts.I can feel HOW it felt to you,as you describe your childhood.I can relate to having your personality "denuded". You are left so empty that you really almost "did " die. They stripped away so much. Here you are reclaiming your wholeness. It is a beautiful story of good triumphing over evil and the strength of the human spirit. You are an inspiration to me , Sally. I needed the inspiration  that you provided .You are going forth with so  little from your FOO,but you are not giving up. I hope that you stay and KEEP  sharing. You have been a tremendous gift to me, Sally.     Love   Ami
