Landmark Forum negative experiences?

Anyone know anything negative about Landmark Forum? I have been invited to a free introductory meeting and I know its just a sales and recruiting session for paid seminars, but wonder if anyone knows anything more about it. I have heard it can be dangerous for vulnerable people but not sure that is me. I can be pretty assertive in one-time situations where I know I will be insulted or manipulated for money or other gain.  My problem is more with being betrayed by people that I have liked enough and trusted. I have heard they engage in attack therapy, where they belittle and humiliate and ostracize, to break people down to accept their "tools". Some of the tools seem reasonable enough, I have heard the material is good, but the methods of delivery are not. That said, some others have said, beware, but being open to learning, taking what works and avoiding things you don't like is healthy.

Any thoughts?

Hi Ales2...

I went to a 3 day Landmark session.. they do all those things belittle you etc.
The people I went with Quit after the first couple of hours...But at the time I felt
what ever they were dishing out would not make me quit and run...
I also have a family member into Landmark....Landmark in no way was an enriching experience for me..
My thoughts....... they are a money making Cult...Just my opinion.

Hi - Thanks for your response. Money making cult is well put. I anticipate the business aspect of that, I have no problem with people making money, but do have problems with not having employees but volunteers, thats not ethical. My other concern is high pressure sales and cultish atmosphere. I can handle those situations, but mostly like to avoid them whenever possible.

My brother went and he called me during the first day session. He seemed to think it helped alot but that was about 5 years ago. He tried some attack therapy on me which I think he learned from them. Mostly, my brother is a jerk and I stay away. If LM was good for his family relationships, it did nothing for ours.

Find something POSITIVE that fascinates you and do that!

Thanks for your post Hops. You made some very good points and I think you are right. Ill be staying home tonight writing another chapter of my book! Hooray for that!
