The voice of a holocaust survivor: Aniko Friedberg
« on: February 27, 2016, 08:28:57 PM »
Hi everybody,

When I was a teenager, I gardened and did “handyman” work for a lovely family in Huntington, NY who were also friends of my parents.  This is the holocaust survival story of the wife of this family, Aniko Friedberg, who was a very bright, very dear person (and overly appreciative of my hard work but limited skills!)   Aniko told her story to the USC Shoah Foundation in 1995, and it was posted online in 2011.  She died in (approximately) 2005.  I am so glad my brother Jeff sent me this YouTube link, so that I could learn more of the horrific details of her early life.  For me, it is important to know what Aniko went through in her own words, and I will always remember her fondly…

P.S.  As I’ve posted earlier, I also worked summers during high school and in college for a tiny computer/engineering firm.  My boss’s wife, Alice T., also a very dear person (the whole family were friends of our family) survived Auschwitz.  As far as I know, however, her holocaust testimony has not been recorded, but if I am wrong, I will post this, too.

What an amazing story perseverance, and intestinal fortitude, Doc G.

You were very lucky to have known Aniko Friedberg.  I bet it was very gratifying to see her share her story like that.  There were so many things you wouldn't have known.

I especially loved hearing her speak about her family.

Listening to the atrocities was difficult, but she told her story for a reason.  She deserves to be heard, and we owe it to her to listen.... to remember all of the victims, and never forget.

Thank you for sharing Aniko's story with us.

Hi Lighter,

I’m so glad you listened.   So, so painful in so many ways...and yet, she, unlike so many others, survived.  I feel honored to have known her.
