I'm so very sorry. You have had this good man to love for so long,
you must be devastated to be reaching this chapter. He is very lucky
to have you by his side.

There's no shortcut but please know I'm thinking of you. I hope
you'll reach out to Hospice if/when that makes sense, and a
support group for yourself.

This is wrenching, but thank you for telling us. I'm so sorry.

love and comfort,
Hops

Thank you so much Hops for your kind reply......Yes we have been together a long time we met when we were 16 and 17 and married 55 years this year.....
We sure have learned a lot together......over coming alcoholism and dealing with two Narcissistic mothers.....both were bad no matter how you slice it......
And now we have cancer on our plate....
You just never know do we???
Ive been praying a lot....hoping no matter the outcome I will be able to handle it.....I was shown how not to handle cancer when my dad died at age 51 watching my mother dump his pills and filling the capsules with sugar.....He was in so much pain......but it seems no matter the story with my N mother nothing was handle normal.....
So I am doing my best for the man I  love....
Thank you again......Love, Bettyanne xoxo
PS we do have six wonderful kids...a real blessing in our lives....and grandkids and great grandkids..xo

Oh BettyAnne, I'm so sorry that you and Bill are going through this, I had been wondering how you were getting on.  I think situations over which you have very little control are so difficult and painful to manage.  Can only offer you love and hugs right now, I do wish there was something more useful I could do for you.  I hope you know that you are loved and well regarded here and there is always someone about to offer a little comfort or support.
Much love to you and your hubby at this difficult time.
Love
Tupp xx xx

Many hugs BettyAnne... I've been there, too. Best advice I can give you from things I didn't do so well...

Let everyone who offers, help. Even something as simple as making you a sandwich or just company helps. And when you notice yourself getting tired - and you will - ASK for help. It would be smart to pre-arrange somethings to make it easier now, if you can.

Fill the time you currently have, with as much laughter and love as you can. It's always the little things that matter the most; the daily simple kindnesses that are soooo important.
Success is never final, failure is never fatal.

((Bettyanne))

I remember wishing I'd have calmed myself down, when B was struggling with colon cancer for 5 months, looked around, and given more attention to the things I could control.  Fresh flowers, nice scented oils, candles, and clean sheets more often than I got to them.  I was a mess.  In shock.  I'm sure visitors would have benefitted from a calmer, comforting environment.  I'd never had to go through that before, and it was paralyzing, outside the doctor appointments, keeping up with meds, and managing emotions... mine and his, which had to be done.  I know everyone would have benefitted had I brightened up our space.... thought through which lamps to turn on, which to leave off.  Sometimes too much reality is too much reality.  Changing out all light bulbs, for warm light, lifts my spirits 100%.

One helpful thing, for pain, was the 12 hour oxycontin.  Bill could sleep longer, and I didn't have to wake him up every 4 hours to keep the pain under control.  The 4 hour stuff meant we were both consistently sleep deprived, and suffering.  Fighting the pain back was the cost of letting Bill sleep longer than 4 hours.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.
