Einsturzende Neubauten, Swans, PIL - all that back in the day, for awhile. Ian Drury still makes me swoon. Cocteau twins, Bulgarian women's choir, Nina Simone, Poe, Steely Dan, Ricki Lee Jones, Stevie Wonder all perennial faves. Plus a secret stash of guilty musical pleasures like Bee Gees (chipmunks of pure pop genius!) and Barry Manilow (we have a Manilow Scale, with which we rate the intensity and effectiveness of modulations in music - how weird - but fun -is that?).
I get paid to sing Jazz and Standards, and I have incredible respect for the craft of song - both in musical and literary terms, and the grace of the ballads can move me like love itself. Plus I'm "of a certain age", 40ish, so I can do this and not look like an ass.
I still write/record offbeat pop for my own pleasure.
Never did get really on board with surf punk, though, being an east coaster.
Why Luego? As far as I know, this means "soon" or "then". Is it a place reference?
