something wonderful
« on: July 29, 2005, 12:01:21 AM »
Hi everybody.  I've posted so often about feeling really bad that I just wanted to share something good.  I hope people don't take this as being really full of myself.  I'm just very excited.

I've said that I'm taking a writing workshop, and it's been hard, but I've kept with it.  I just want to quote you the instructor's comments about my second submission:

This is the best essay I've read at [name of venue sponsoring the class] in years.  It's really well done.  It's very close to being ready to publish.  You're a terrific writer.  I know that a lot of readers would resonate very strongly with what you have to say.  Send it off.

The outpouring of genuine (well, it certainly felt genuine) support and appreciation from the other students was gratifying, to say the least.  This was a very personal piece of writing, and I felt somewhat nervous about putting it "out there"--unsure whether my fellow students would be able to confine their criticisms to the writing, or would feel it necessary to go after the writer.  But everyone was so wonderful about it, I felt incredibly validated and grateful.

Anyway, as I say, I don't mean to come off as full of my own success.  I just wanted to share this (very small) thrill of victory with those of you who have been kind enough to talk me through the agony of (self)-defeat.

best,
daylily

Full of yourself? I should think you are! What a wonderful accolade- and result almost of all the empathy and feelings you have learned through all that bad stuff.

Well done, I think it's wonderful. Learn to rejoice in yourself and your successes D/L, I'm sure there's many more to come!

Way to go, Daylily!!!!  Toot your horn.  You are defintely allowed.  Do I remember you once saying you didnt feel good about anything you have done or were?  Well, this is it and acknowledged by others.  I am sure there are many more wonderful things you have accomplished and I know you have many more wonderful qualities.   Let this be a start.

Congrat! you deserve it- YOU EARNED IT!!! Ironic and a little sad( for me anyway) that those of us abused by Ns cannot accept compliments- we're always on guard( WHY does SOMEONE VALUE ME?) The old trust issue- so difficult to trust yourself after abuse.Extremely difficult to trust anyone else. What's the ulterior motive, what do they really want? I used to always blow off compliments but now I've learned to say " thank you" and feel really good and proud- of ME!!! Uncomfortable at first, but it gets easier! Big smile and pat on the back.!!
I've just ended abusive relationship of 1 yr. with male narcissist. I cycle between stages of anger and grieving and have accepted it. Hope I've alienated him so he won't recontact me- is this possible?     Moira

 daylilly, Congrats!!!!!!!!

Your efforts to better yourself and have a positive response makes life a wonderful blessing.
They say it takes 10 good responses to make up for 1 bad.

I think now you have 10 good responses from the posters here, I hope you have one of the bad responses erased from your life.

Im wishing you the greatest success in your writing.
