Bridges Over Impasse
« on: March 19, 2006, 08:39:36 PM »
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had thoughts or helpful anecdotes about how they've moved through an impasse? One example is if there are conflicting views of things that are unbridgeable. One thing that can happen is this familiar dialogue:

Are not.
Are TOO.
Are not.
Are TOO.

Am not.
Am TOO.
Am not.
Am TOO.

I know when kids do this, parents try to simply change the subject.
And I think love trumps conflict.

But my daughter's friend's father was just murdered in Iraq two weeks ago (after having been a hostage since November). And he was All About Love.

So what do people think about that?

I know this is sort of vague and philosophical but maybe it would shine light if anybody wants to share ideas about moving past impasse...

Good lord, Bean...what cruelty can disguise itself under the name of "mother."
I am so sorry.

(She sounds ill. Really, really ill. And with no control of her own speech...just an entitled, stream of spew, with you in its path.)

Is she GONE from your life? I sure hope so.
You did not deserve that.

Nobody does.  :(

(You're right. An impasse is more llike something between two equals, I think. She had--and abused--all the power.)

Thanks, Stormchild.
Well, he was acting out his faith and his friends and family supported him completely...it was an act of witness for him and the group he went with. I've met his daughter and she is sweet and calm. Just tears me up anyway. My D is very upset for her friend because she knows what it's like to lose her father.
