Learning the Language of LAUGHTER
« on: June 15, 2006, 04:13:28 AM »
Would it be a good idea for grammar schools and High Schools to have an hour of laughter every day as an assignment? Plays, funny shows ,skits ,cartoons what-have-you. The best way to laugh really is when you are with those you love. Now we just let T.V. do it for us.But it is more fun to create it your self .Would this be a healing class for grammar age kids? An hour a day to brighten up their spirits and help the learn better, relieve stress.

They could enact comedy in front of each other it builds self esteem and character. They could learn to trust each other better without fear. And learn to laugh at themselves which even adults have a hard time at.(I know I can't hardly take a sweet tease)So that is what
got me thinking laughter is a healing thing .Learning how to laugh at your self is healthy. What would that hour be called ?What would the name of the class be?

I like the kind of humor that shows the absurdity of life altogether. This is where you look at things that are filled with religion, different cultures, even bulling and turn them around into situations you can laugh at.So you are laughing at the absurdity, then there is humor. Then we know we want to understand each other even with differences what we really want is to love each other. Its like the universe saying why waste your time hurting one another when you can go to this cool laughter class we have not named yet.
Do you think it would be good for kids? What would be a good name for such a class ?

THIS IS MOON BEING SILLY FOR A VERY IMPORTANT REASON SAVE OUR KIDS WITH LAUGHTER AND HUGS

Ahhh, Moon, what a lovely idea.

I am so sorry your D is being bullied. Makes my heart sore.
Only thing I know of to stop it is for your mother tiger to go directly to the girl's house, or better,
catch her at school, whisk her around a corner and give her a serious warning: "You don't have to be my D's friend, not everyone is friends with everyone, but I do not want ANY more bullying or I will go straight to your parents and you will be in a world of trouble, do you hear me?" A good old-fashioned talking-to. Meaning it, and with major eye contact. Full adult authority intimidation factor.

Doesn't sound like your style but here's an opportunity to stop a rageaholic before she grows up and does it all the time.

Mighty Moon!

Love this idea, Moonlight!

I know I needed a little more laughter as a kid.  My mom always told me I was "no  fun".  Gee, I wonder why?!

I wonder if a Montessori school might have such a class.

my toddler laughs at certain words that sound silly to her, like "temperature" or "car seat".  She laughs as she says them over and over, working on the pronunciation.  She laughs when I chase her around the sofa, we wrestle and I tickle her, and she laughs till she can hardly breathe.  then she says "hug, hug, hug" and we do.

I can't stand the thought of anyone bullying my daughter, so I imagine it must be really hard seeing your daughter get bullied.  What to do?  Maybe ask her if there is anything you can do to help?  Maybe talk to the bully, as Hops said, or talk to the bully's parents?

My Dad had a silly sense of humor...self-deprecating and witty. He'd make absurd noises, say nonsense words, and had equal amounts of humor and kindness in his face. (My D is poleaxed by verbal nonsense and accidental funny things...) He thought people were all welcome and everyone completely worthy of his attention...and it showed.

He died in a long hot summer at 86, and the church was full. The lady at the drycleaners' burst into tears. He made friends wherever he went. His smile was so genuine. His face lit up when he met a new person.

NMom? When someone is witty or funny she doesn't laugh. She puts on a blank smile and waits for people to stop chuckling and return to listening to her.

I think humor requires empathy.

Thanks Pennyplant for your humorous reply.  I'm sure we'll find some gold within the fallout ashes (or perhaps not?).

The vast majority of the viewer comments were along the lines of hilarious, rotflol, etc ..  I appreciate how it made me laugh in the beginning, but then almost gave me a heart attack at the end.  If somebody is very sensitive like me, I suggest they hit the pause button just as he steps off the curb.  I would love to see this thread as a humor relief thread.  Anybody got any other funny stuff?

"He'll be back in three days."  I'm giggling all over again.  I bet making those kind of videos is the best job in the world.  What a blast that would be.
