Quote
God Never Gives You More Than You Can Handle

I am having one of THOSE days and this quote popped into mind, because it often gets me through a time like this. I do believe it.

Love to all of you and a hope that this will stick in your mind for rough days too.

Love, Beth

Bless you Beth,

This has been my anchor through my trials and tribs.

Along with Roms 8:28

Personal belief and faith.

PS... I only have to read again the story of Joseph .... or Job .... to affirm in my heart that all would be well and now it actually does seem to be.  Not perfect, but, was never promised perfect.

Was it Mother Theresa who said, "God never gives us any more than we can handle.  I just wish he didn't trust me so much."?

I never see life as G_d 'giving me' anything, to me G_d is more of an energy than a person I guess, the consciousness of love, the balance of this universe.
Other things 'just are'. 'Bad' things are only bad because of our perception- a tsunami just is a part of nature for example, even though it's effects can be sadness and suffering; but that's on a different level of cause and effect.

If that makes sense.

Human nature- now we can choose that- to suffer or to punish others. Someone asked me if they offended me last week, I said 'we choose to be offended'. Or to offend sometimes. I can detach from that. But sometimes like with ex I have not thought it through and compassion for him turned out to be causing suffering for me and son. It's a balance thing again.

I've never felt punished, though if I tune into G_d and especially in a non-ego way, I feel calmer and more supported. To the point of it's as good at calming my bipolar as medication! But of course I can't always sustain it, i get world-distracted. Prayer helps focus me but sometimes I don't focus prayer...

Prayer is when you talk to God; meditation is when you listen to God

I know lots of people who have cracked up under the strain of experiences in their lives

including me!
But the strength which comes from recovery is amazing too.

This post just remeinded me of something I read and I say it a lot to myself now......

....We have been sent nothing but angels...  the basic concept being that whatever is thrown at us it gives us the opportunity to grow...  I hold onto that

I have to help lead a service on Darfur Sunday.

I have been reading about it all night.

These people can't handle what they've been given.

Footprints

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking
along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene, he noticed
two sets of footprints in the sand:
one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path
of his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the
very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him
and he questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided to
follow you, you’d walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome
times in my life, there is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why when I needed
you most you would leave me.”
The Lord replied,
“My child, my precious child,
I love you and would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”

He has carried me, many times.  Leah xx

I believe God never gives us more than we can handle if we allow him to carry it for us. In fact I believe that is why He allows these things, to compel us to allow him to bear our burdens and rely on Him.

If we refuse His offer of help it is very possible we will not be able to handle what we are given.

Mud,
Yes, you are right. I needed that refocus... I feel like I have been too far away from doctrine lately. And it is nice to remember that I don't have to shoulder it all.

I love that story about God carrying us when we are at our weakest.

What is happening in Darfur is man made. A combination of economic and social disasters.  There is little gained by looking on the sunny side of things for the people who are dying there. I find it so amazing that the people still have a beautiful dignity and such a will to live. Many still have strong faith. This is such a gift to a consumer based society like the one in North America.

It is time that the people who have so much at the expense of third world countries begin to share.  Some things are up to God but the rest is up to us.

Somedays are filled with golden sunshine
and somedays are a meloncholy blue
Those are the days when you can't
seem to find your smile
In anything you say or do...
Yet we carry on through lifes journey
Carrying all our joys and pains
Perhaps learning a few of life's lessons
And wisdom is what we gain
Maybe without the storms of life
That attirbute to the meloncholy blues
We would never have found
God's sustaining love and grace
the power to carry us through  :D

As most of you already know, I'm a stickler when it comes to my beliefs.  I noticed that WRITE entitled this post "God Never Gives You More Than You Can Handle."  I have a problem with this.  The scripture does not read that way.

The verse is "God will not allow you to be tempted without giving you a way out."  It has nothing to do with "handling" anything.  It has to do with you finding a way out when you feel compelled to do certain things or say certain things.  He is a refuge and a fortress for us...but He does allow things in life that we, ourselves cannot handle.  If not, none of us would likely be on this group to begin with.
