« on: April 06, 2007, 11:31:41 AM »
I'be been watching House on tv, and for those who have seen him in action.... do you think he has N charactaristics, even though the guy is obviously very very high IQ, his cruelty to patients and the doctors he works with , makes me wonder if his character has N traits

what do you all thinnk?.......... also the fact that we love him, are mesmorised by him also makes me wonder about his N traits

he is kind of like the person we all love to hate so to speak

Hi poet,

I have seen the show house and thought the character interesting ....As far as n traits...... I agree with a lot of what Write says (if I am interpreting correctly)
Labels may not always be right.I would separate actions from the person anyone has the opportunity to grow and change and it is so productive to look within.

Of course if anyone's actions and attitude towards you are not healthy it would be best for all not to continue a situation like that and people are  more complex than a tv character.

I guess my point is look at actions and separate those from the person. And it would be unfortunate for anyone to love to hate.
I understand your point protecting oneself is necessary.

No, I don't think House is an N.  I think he acts the way he does, because he is a drug addict in chronic pain.  I don't remember the exact storyline, but I think he acts the way he does toward his parents because he was abused as a child.  Like a lot of you, he just doesn't want any more contact with them.

yes he was abused as a child, and he is addicted to pain pills because of the accident of his leg... that is why he walks with a limp, but there is more to him if you watch and really listen to the plot....

1) he gets off on talking to people like they are crap

2) all the docotrs have to treat him like a child because he acts like one

3) he loves to argue ... always challenges although they make you think that it is to make his team better doctors and to a degree i agree.... but he is addicted to the thrills............. so are N's they are addicted to the supply

Here is just one blurp about House from off the net:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412142/

Plot: An antisocial maverick doctor who specializes in diagnostic medicine does whatever it takes to solve puzzling cases that come his way using his crack team of doctors and his wits.

poet ,

It would be good if the character could step out of victimhood but then the character could continue on in the same behaviors and say
"That's the way they wrote me "

I'm not sure if I think House is an N.

I know he has an addiction  to Vicodin due to the pain in his leg.  He hates liars which I think attributes to his coldness.  He hated his father and never forgave his girlfriend who took power of attorney to amputate part of his leg while he was in a comma.

I think he is a very Angry man.  I think he shut down.

This maybe how anger and victimhood are connected .....
To some anger, hate these types of feelings feel like power............
And this is needed to get beyond the pain...........

Yeah I think he is an Angry man too, My hubby doesn't like the new episodes of House, he thinks they made him to serious, but I love the show..... i don't think the story line or plot has changed that dramatically
