Feeling a little better
« on: August 11, 2007, 05:36:39 PM »
Hi friends,
For those of you that don't remember, I am recovering from disc surgery on my neck. It was done the afternoon of the 30th.
I stayed overnight & went home the next morning.
I was violently ill from the anesthesia & threw up the first 3 days at home.
Plus, I hurt like you know what! But...I lost 5 lbs that week. What a way to lose it, though!
Now, my surgeon wants to look at my arm & shoulder. After I heal from this surgery.
I've been telling him it hurt for months. Drs never listen. He thinks that is a new problem. Not exactly!
GRRRRRR! Anyway, I'm still pretty weak, but I am out of the woods.
I want to give a big shout out to AMI. She was the only one who kept sending me PM's wondering how I was doing. Thank you, Ami, you are a peach!
Oh, BTW, my NMother is acting pretty nice, (for her), but she's also acting crazy. For example: I told her my surgery was July 30th. I told her 5 times.
Well, she happened to call my cell looking for me while I was in the hospital. My husband answered & told her what was going on & she argued with him & said "What do you mean she's in the hospital!" She CAN'T be in the hospital, her surgery is AUGUST 30th!" My husband said no, it was yesterday & she really gave him a hard time!
Then she swore I told her my arms were in a cast! What I told her was that the surgeon had to grab my arms & pull my spine into place to line the disc up properly & that they were going to be very sore for a couple of weeks, but no mention of a cast. Then in another call, she told me my throat was sore because of the surgery tube. I told her that I had no such tube, but that they moved my esophagus over to get to my disc & that's why I couldn't eat solid food. She argued with me about that! I think she's going mad!
I just gave up & let her talk. I'm just glad she's hundreds of miles away, so she can't come in person.
Anyway, I'm glad to feel better & be back on the board!
Love,
Bigalspal

Hi Pal,

I'm ever so grateful to Ami for her tender remembrances to you while you were down.

(((((((((((((((((((((((((((Biggalspal/Ami))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Pal, glad that the operation went the way it was supposed to.  Sorry for the suffering though.

Hope you're up to speed sooner than expected.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for the kind words!  :D
I really appreciate it.
I can't wait until my appetite picks up again. I can eat solid food now, but very carefully.
I feel like I have 2 "swallower's". It's a weird feeling, but according to my surgeon, very normal. I have my stitches out, but my neck looks very swollen & bruised.
But I'm grateful I don't have to wear a bandage anymore & can take a real shower.
I'm just very weak & run out of steam quickly.
All in all, I'm doing great!

Izzy, the surgeon says I'll be on pain meds for another month. But he is weaning me down to a lower dose.
My next apt is on the 30th. Hopefully I'll be completely healed in 5 more weeks.
Then he'll concentrate on my arm & shoulder.
Maybe he won't find anything wrong.
I'm so ready to get on with my life.
Thanks for asking!
Love,
Bigalspal

Hi BigAlsPal-

It is so good to hear from you. I'm sorry about the pain and illness you have suffered. Soon you will regain your strength and more, and prowl your domain like a lioness!!!I'm so happy that you had a good outcome, and that Ami contacted you (sorry I will learn to do better- I am not quite familiar with the etiquette, etc on the board and did not want to intrude- but you were in my thoughts). Please take your vitamins, especially fish oils, yeast, etc., for healing. Greens are good too. Eat and sleep well, and you will get the most benefit from your medical treatment. I am happy that you will not have to spend your precious energy on NM- you can cuddle with your husband (well maybe with your feet?) and feel the love and good vibes instead!!!

Love to you,

Changing

Dear Pal,

That's gotta feel like the strangest thing.. 2 swallowers. (((((((Pal))))))  you just take it really slow and easy.

I'm hoping and praying that your arm and shoulder pains maybe were connected to the neck-disc trouble and that'll clear up on its own now.
Strange stuff with nerves, I know... never had anything like your situation, but when there's a pinch, I can feel stuff a mile away in a toe or some completely unrelated place, just because of one herniated disc in my low back. You sure sound good after all you've been through and it's wonderful to hear your voice :)

Love,
Hope

Thanks for the love, friends!
I know, 2 swallower's! That does feel weird!
I had to get my pain meds switched to liquid because I kept chocking on the pills .
Well, I better go lie down.
I'll see you guys tomorrow!
Love,

Pal,
I hope your recovery continues fast....and you feel better every day. Sounds traumatic!!! I'm sorry you have so much pain. It is hard on the stomach, that anesthesia.

Get well! Nice to "hear" your voice.

Dear Pal,

Keep on healing...it's healing to hear your voice.
Welcome back and you were truly missed.

You were brave to manage all that and come out cheery.

Hugs (careful ones)
