Perception --- Interpretation
« on: December 08, 2007, 09:33:37 AM »
Please Note:  This is not N related

Perception issues is a topic that I have wanted to post on for some time now.

Having studied (as in looked at) the subject of Perception quite a few years ago now.

And also, it was included in the training for my voluntary work.

..... An expression on one's face - incorrectly perceived

..... A tone of voice - incorrectly perceived

..... A message in written form - incorrectly perceived

..... A behaviour or attitude - incorrectly perceived

The above I have experienced on both sides of the (non N) fence, in the workplace, among friends, in all social settings.

Allow me to share my very own personal illustration of Perception as being a primary tool of life, and that, if it is incorrect by either party in any given situation - then a 'ball of confusion' starts rolling ....

...... down a hill covered with snow all the while gathering in mammoth proportion and running out of control.

Has anyone else reached an understanding of perception incorrectly interpreted?

Would love to be able to engage and openly share on this aspect of daily interaction.

Much Love,

Leah

I find a good way to skip the wrong perceptions is to

slow talk back what we think we just heard....

before making assumptions.

It's funny how some people absolutely never understand what was meant.... and I'm speaking about a 3-D relationship right now.... actually.... 3 of them.

So... the slow talking gives a chance for the orginal speaker to clarify what they actually meant AND feels heard as a postive by product: )

Communication truly is altogether a most fascinating subject.

And in particular, I have an appreciation for the subheading in the tips section, in the other thread, entitled  "Clarify what was meant"

As we all, from time to time, misinterpret - what we hear and/or what we read as in 'fact to face'  and/or in online * hear * and * read *

Think it would be beneficial if we all as people, everywhere on a wide level, could engage in checking out that we have understood what someone has said and/or  * said * correctly, with respectful courteous engagement - thereby, adopting a life breathing healthy option.  Or am I being a 'pollyanna'?  :)

And I truly do appreciate the examples of ...

you could ask, "When you said...did you mean...    or, "what did you mean by..."    or, "when you said...I heard... is that what you meant"

At the end of the day, it's true, what it says in closing portion;   the choice is ours

And it really is our choice on a very wide level.

Can't help but wonder, very often, if the root of the problem is that we are simply too preoccupied to stop, stand back, and listen
as we go through the paces of our ever increasingly busy 'rat race' pace of life.

Just a thought.

Love, Leah
