been a while since I bought mine, but I think it was Northern Lights...not sure...

All I did was Google, get a few brand names, and compare...

It can be a little confusing when you first start looking at buying a SAD Light so I thought it might make it a little easier if I did a comparison of the two I personally own; the Sadelight and the Litebook.

Note: I own The Litebook V1.2 which they don't sell anymore. They now sell the Litebook Elite. The Elite is slightly different than mine but for this comparison should be fairly close.

These lamps can be purchased at their respective web sites which you'll find at the top of the table above. You can also find them in some drugstores and personal health care stores (places that sell wheelchairs, etc.) They can also be purchased through places like Amazon. Using These Lamps
I'm very fortunate in that I'm able to have two different lights as each one meets a different need. I use the Litebook at work and the Sadelight at home. You will need to decide on what requirements you have and where and when you will be using it. For example, if you travel a lot, you'll want to look into the travel SAD lights you can get.

Most of them will only require you to sit in front of them for about 15 - 30 minutes.


In my personal opinion, I definitely prefer the Sadelite over the Litebook. I don’t mind using the Sadelite whereas I almost have to force myself to use the Litebook. The feelings of nausea that the Litebook can give me are apparently quite rare in people but that is a factor for me.


If you think you do have SAD, then I highly recommend getting a SAD light. It will feel like a complete miracle for you. I couldn't believe how incredible it was to actually get my life back within just a few days. It's amazing what a difference such a simple thing of getting more light will do for you. The nice thing too is that once you buy one, there's no additional costs and you can use it year after year.

ACK... thanks Leah.  I thought I was going crazy when I couldn't find it, lol.

I take 4000 Units of vitamin D.  My doc says the sunlight produces vitamin D and that is what makes you happy and not hurt.  So if you cannot afford a light-take vitamin D.

Sister wants light for her 9yo daughter, who eats leafy greens, fruits and poulty but drinks no milk. 

Not sure if she gets enough vitamin D, frankly.

They took blood tests and my levels were so low-she told me that is why I was so darn tired.  Plus it hurt to walk-so the vitamin D helped.

Well this doc takes care of us poor hormonal menopausal women.  I guess cuz I had gained weight and I had been depressed and I was anemic and my back is out of whack.  All these things just accumulated so the doc was trying to tweek everything so I had energy.  The vitamin D helps with energy AND aches.

Overcomer..... did you take supplements for the iron deficiency or use food to deal with the anemia?

I don't notice feeling markedly better when I take supplements but the self care ritual, along with feeling somewhat markedly not so well when I skip them, keeps me taking them.

I think drinking a lot more water's part of the equation.  I drink a lot more with that particular ritual.

So tired.  I was anemic before surgery so needed to up the iron to get my levels up.  I lose a lot each month.  I suppose if I started eating better I would not have to rely on supplements so much.

I read that some of them produce migraine and ceassures (could not find the spelling) it is involuntary contractions due to light stimulations in propense people with previous epilpsy.

Do you know the spelling? ceasure?
