This is going to sound weird, but the movie that always spoke to me was "Carrie." It came out when I was in HS, and even though it was science fiction, the mother-daughter relationship really touched a nerve with me. Carrie not being told about women getting their periods, being isolated in high school due to lack of social skills - she was just like me. And like me, when Carrie rebelled against the domineering M, really bad things happened. To this day, I can't watch that movie without seeing a piece of my myself in Carrie White.
