Forgotten birthday:(
« on: September 05, 2009, 12:06:42 PM »
Yesterday was my birthday and do you think my NM or my dad would call. I really thought my dad would call. My grandmother didn't even call me but I gave her the benefit of the doublt as she is older and forgets birthdays... I know I should know that things aren't going to change but in my heart I always have this small bit of hope and all day long I was hoping to get a call from my mom wishing me a happy birthday. My dad usually wishes my happy birthday but lately he has been forgetting some events and I don't think it is alzehimers. My brother, half sister and husband and kids all wished me a happy birthday and my immediate family went to dinner to the olive garden, for those of you who have ever heard of the restuarant, for those who haven't its and italian resturant. They sang to me their in italian and today my inlaws have a gift for me(walmart gift card and homemade brownies...yumm). I guess it was making me sad also more this year because my van was broken into the other day and the last gift my dad got me for my bday as stolen and he gave it to me in person...I live in PA and he lives in CA, so I was sad more than usual this week. Just wanted to vent.. thanks for listening. I do want to say I did have a good time because of my husband and kids...they are the world to me..

Dear(((Rugrats))
I know what you mean about the hope. I  hope I will magically have a family who loves me. I have gotten a little better lately as I am discovering Blackie/Whitie.
The worse loss was my disconnection to myself, I think.
I am happy you had a good time at the Olive Garden. We have them here. I love their salads.
 Happy Birthday, Rugrat!                    Ami

hi rugrat,

If I might interject my thoughts of 2 sisters raised the same way, it's all in how the incident, whatever it might be, is perceived.

My eldest sister never remembers birthdays, and never tries, does not apologize for it, as when she was growng up, our parents did not acknowledge birthdays (5 children) with anything, let alone even a spoken HB.

I, on the other hand, felt that birthdays were to be acknowledged, BECAUSE, they had never been, by our parents.

As far as my daughter was, and has been, concerned right now, up to her 45th birthday, I have never forgotten ONE birthday, and I would feel like a real sh*t if I had forgotten.

My NM has always been very much into birthdays and remembering birthdays, almost fanatically. It seems like a matter of life and death. But that is about the only (positive) thing she has been fanatical about. Oh, and also about preparing healthy food.

Congratulations Rugrats.
