NM's and daughters in law (to be)
« on: September 13, 2009, 03:19:15 AM »
My husband and his N ex wife have two sons. One son's girlfriend is treated like she is the bees knees by te NM. The NM can't wait to become a grandmother  to a child of hers, she has been saying this since the girl was 19. The other son's girlfriend the NM seems to hate and loathe with a passion. She even no longer wants to see the girl. I read in dr. McBrides book that NM's often treat their sons very well but that she feels very sorry for the daughters in law (to be). How do your NM's treat their daughters in law (to be)?

Well, the son with the girlfriend the NM does not like lives in Athens in Greece. His girlfriend is Greek. They will be coming over and they will be staying with us for a week because they have all this drama going on with the NM. So it will be VERY hard not to get wrapped up in the drama and I am not looking forward to it.

I've been thinking a lot about this question. I don't think I even know what a healthy in-law relationship would look like. But although my husband was the GC, I think his brother's wife and I were both treated the same (shabbily). His brother was the SG. Holidays were always a minefield. People were played against one another. Yuck. I say all of this in the past tense because we all have gone LC with the N-MIL.

She loves her NOW, since daughter in law to be seems "easy to control".  Months ago, NM wasn't happy b/c the daughter in law wasn't "what NM" is infatuated with (money, glamour and status). My sister-in-law to be doesn't represent that.

Hey..since I moved out, the sister-in-law to be seems like a perfect candidate for NM to manipulate. I feel so sorry for the poor girl already. She has no idea what she's in for.

As for my future husband, that man has to face some competition from my NM. I can bet money that NM will be VERY JEALOUS of him and will try to make him look bad.

Well, son and Greek girlfriend are staying with us now and my husband has spilled some beans. I am very stressed out about what is going to happen now.
