The island
lighter:
I just received pics of newly paved roads at the cottage. They look really good...they look like less grit in my teeth.

3 guests checked in on the 28th. I guess they had many hours of struggling to get there ...ended up on a different flight on a different airline. Not sure why, but it's not a good trip for people who rarely travel, IME. Nothing easy about it, IME.
This guy's a professor at Cornell University, well traveled. They're happy with the cottage, had their exhausted first meal at nearby restaurant.....only one I trust on the island. Open kitchen, no bugs.

I can very close with past Cottage guests. Almost perfectly matched, but these last 3....
we're perfectly aligned to enjoy it all. Even the bumps.
The guy who lined it up, read the book about Hemingway and the island on my bookshelf. He brought a fly rod, hired a bonefish guide and sent fascinating pictures of his experience....what they caught, what they cooked .... everything, but diving, which was their main reason to visit.
On the day they arrived, after hours of travel snags, he said he aligned with my favorite saying...."If it's not ok, it's ok.". It was a telling beginning to their 8 day stay.
These guys focus on the joy.
He left a very short 5 star review, assuming while at the airport. With his permission, I used some of his pics and added info for future guests.

Guests checked in yesterday.....5 of them. They're set up with deep sea fishing at nearby marina, and scuba diving place on North side.
I forgot to rename WiFi network......they figured it out. At least it's up and working.
I haven't heard anything about the dogs and ,seven puppies. Hope caretaker's keeping up with flea situation.

Guest checked out this morning, happy to take her time. Her friend said she's returning in the summer. Contemplating that heat makes me feel weak.
Guest texted for a few phone numbers.....easy to help with that, and trip so difficult......making guest lives easier seems the least a host might do, IME.
No mention of the 7 puppies, but I know she goes out with nearby sea captain every trip. I used to eat breakfast at the marina and see this cool guy with silver dreadlocks every day. I didn't realize he was the sea captain or I would have gotten his number. Took me forever to get his number from others.... everything takes more time, more effort, more money and planning.
Moving parts....so many moving parts.
My dependable handyman was paid $500 ahead to paint 2 new fiberglass exterior doors. They're so tight ... it's like an airlock when they open. The "Caretaker" said he'll sink the old doors, to create a lobster shelf. IME, they'll be dissolved by the salt water in under 6mo.
The water heater is leaking, but otherwise working.....not touching up master br paint haunts me, but just a little.
Cottage left in great shape, though I believe housekeeper says that every time, bc she's the opposite of a complainer.
The journey continues.
