....thanks for helping me remember some childhood memories..the snow under street lights......mmmm
I am stuck against my will in the "stinkin' desert"

There is something very comforting that always comes with the first snow fall of the season.   It's so pure in the beginning before the grime from the roads and cars taints it.

I'm about all snowed out for the season.  Looking forward to the beautful signs of Spring.  Even the kids keep wanting to know when they can ride their bikes and go to the park.

With all that being said, I would miss the snow just like you Mum if I lived in the desert.  I'm with Mud...wishing your way outta there.

Sorry Mum if I sounded insensitive.  I know you would give up those orange blossoms and warm temps in a heartbeat to be with your family and fiance.

I will say a prayer for you "getting out of that stinkin desert" this morning at church.

Brigid, no offense taken at all.  I was also poking fun at myself...complaining about the beautiful weather (although when it's 107f in June, nobody would trade!).
It helps to keep light about my situation.  My fiance and I decided we are like Martha Stewart...not a bad prison, and as he says, we get congugal visits!

fun thread!

I like

being with my dog.  She also is a TV watcher (very obnoxious) but makes up for it with dynamite hugging.

taking naps (remember, I'm pregnant!)

reading really stupid magazines

working in the garden

babbling on the phone about pregnancy with old friends (who have kids and are happy to babble)

travelling, and daydreaming about travelling

talking with the neighbors, and my dog park friends, and just in general whoever comes into my day.  I  I like my neighborhood and my routine and the idle chitchat that comes with it

walking and daydreaming

the Sunday Times

reading something on here that helps me realize I'm not alone :)  I have been through the ringer, as we all have, and sometimes it is just nice to hear other peoples' stories and victorie

I love this thread!

I like to :

Spend time with my two daughters (who, contrary to what any other mother may think, truly are the most beautiful little girls ever!)

Do maths (yes, I know, but I am really not half as boring as I sound!)

Talk about pregnancy to others (We should chat Vunil! When are you due?)

Read books (anything and everything)

Listen to music and dream about Jon Bon Jovi (!)

Sit by the sea and watch the waves. Throw stones in and marvel at the "girliness" of my throw.

Celebrate madly when I get a pebble to do one skim!

Drink champagne ( I like to, how often I actually do it is another matter entirely)

I love to read diet and fitness magazines while drinking tea and eating chocolate. It gives me some kind of perverse pleasure!

I love to talk. To anyone. About anything.

I love cold frosty mornings with the sun shining

I love purple things. Almost to the point of obsession. (I was interviewed about my Dyson and when they asked me to list the number one reason why I bought it I replied "because it was purple". It could be the world's worst vacuum, but it's purple and so I had to have it!! )

I love to walk around huge department stores that I can't afford to even be in and plan my dream house

I don't know what else, but I did enjoy posting this - it makes you think about yourself a little. Which is good when you don't usually have the time!! Felt quite self-indulgent!

I have avoided this post for some time, because it is not an easy thing to answer.  I am sure you can all understand.

So, what are those wicked 'selfish' things I do?

Every morning when I get up I make myself a cafe au lait, very weak, and sometimes with squirty cream on top.  Then I drink that before attempting to do anything else.

I like marmite crisps too.  Not at the same time as the coffee, however.

I like to have nice deep bubbly baths, with candles lit in the bathroom, and a drink of lemonade that I pretend is Martini or Vodka or something exotic.

I like taking my daughter to fly her kite on the Downs.   :)

I like walking through grass.  Especially either wet grass or with hoar frost on it, so you can look back and see footprints.  And I like to walk in a big circle.  Same with snow.

I like being on the beach.

I like being in forests or woods.

I like painting pictures.

I like gardening, and home improvements too.  Very satisfying.

I like putting my arms around my nephew (10) and telling him he is very, very special, when he says he is bad all the way through.  (Memory from weekend.)

I like rescuing him from 'a fate worse than death'; ie a day at the Ngran and grandad's house.     We both laughed like mad at that idea, as I drove him away to my house instead, to help with gardening!!!

I like making gluten free foods for my daughter, and seeing her face when she realises that there is something else she can have.   :)

I like visiting friends.

Also, reading.

And stuff like that.

Great thread!

Reading in bed (even in the middle of the day)

Singing

Dancing like crazy

Going down to the beach and watch the seemingly endless sea

Being in deserts (wanna swop, mum?)

But I guess I'm getting to like snow too, it has finally started to grow on me

Being in forests or on open fields...I guess just all kinds of nature

Lying on the beach on a hot day and feeling the seabreeze like cool soft caresses on my skin

Competing with my fiancé on who can come up with the silliest name for the baby (Hey Vunil! Wanna talk pregnancy? Bring it on!)

Snuggling on the sofa

Havning my third cup of tea today and suddenly discovering that f bought biscuits while I was away

Taking photos and developing them myself

Cooking Indian food

Baking bread

Snorkelling

Reading and posting on this board, being able to be all open an honest

Figuring stuff out

Crossword puzzles

Making things, any things; bags, belts, jewellery, furniture....

Just to name a few (!). Now all I have to do is read this list every morning and try to actually getting round to doing these things (although I'm not going snorkelling in the North Sea at this time of year)!
Rip it to shreds and let it go - Garbage

Oh October, marmite crisps and cafe au lait... yick... whatever you do, don't dunk them in.... !   thank you, I needed a giggle just now.

One of our comedians did a routine long ago about feeding the kids when Mom was sick in bed... so for breakfast he gave them chocolate cake and grapefruit juice... still makes my toes curl.

October and Stormy,

I guess I'm very provincial; what the heck is a marmite crisp, and why would dunking it in cafe au lait require one of those yellow and black radiation warning signs, or at least some goggle eyed emoticons? :?
If the answer is too revolting then just disregard my post.

mudpup

PS. Chocolate cake and grapefruit juice doesn't sound half bad actually.

**PREGNANT LADIES ADVISORY**
**REVOLTING FOOD COMBINATIONS DESCRIBED IN AWFUL DETAIL AHEAD**
**DO NOT READ EARLY IN THE MORNING**
-- your department of tummy security --

Mud,

I pulled the following from this site:
http://www.spurgeon.org/~phil/marmite.htm#whatis

1. What is Marmite?

Marmite is dark brown-colored savory spread made from the yeast that is a by-product of the brewing industry. It has a very strong, slightly salty flavor. It is definitely a love-it-or-hate-it type of food.
It comes in small (2-5 inches high) bulb-shaped glass jars with a distinctive yellow lid.
Children in Britain are generally fed it from the time they are weaned, and most never grow out of it. It has a high B-vitamin content, as well as riboflavin and niacin—and as such is very healthy. (The vitamin-B complex helps prevent anemia.)
-----
Crisps are usually potato chips but I've seen some that looked sort of like giant puffed rice styrofoam things (October, what are those made from? Prawn flavored. I've always been afraid of them!)

So, you have brewer's yeast flavored potato chips, and you're dunking them into very sweet milky coffee with whipped cream on top.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Would you want anyone prone to morning sickness to even imagine that? Not in good conscience, I wouldn't. Hence the warning.

Stormchild,
Thank you for the technical manual on Marmite crisps.
I don't think I'd like one, with or without the cafe au lait and I'm pretty sure I'm not even pregnant. I guess I'm on the hate it side of the bleachers. Too bad they don't have a blecchhh emoticon. I guess this will have to do. :P

Oi!!!!!!!  What are you lot like!!!!!

I don't dunk Marmite crisps/chips in milky coffee.  Mind you, that might be a nice idea ...

And Marmite crisps taste similar to Beef flavoured ones, only nicer.  Which are not flavoured with beef, but yeast extract.

Not posting any more recipes here.

US friends, buy your Marmite crisps here;

Mmmmmmm October! http://www.marmite.co.uk see shockingly strong passions for and against this little brown jar!

I’m a big fan (I get twitchy if I run out of it). Spread very t-h-i-n-l-y on toast, or bread and butter, or on cheese on toast, or for a taste oddity, mix on toast with peanut butter…. Marmite, full of vegetarian vitamins and minerals and probably called Vegemite down in Oz. Can’t live without it.  This is definitely something I do just for myself! 8)

I also like bird-watching at our local lakes. :D  And snorkelling (but not in the lake, too many darn Canada geese for one thing). Are Canada Geese called Canada Geese in Canada? Are they called ‘geese that emigrated to Europe’?

I LOVE marmite! In the early stages of pregnancy it was the only thing that I could keep down! I love it spread THICKLY on toast, cheese, ham, anything. I even have it with Stilton and Brie (not whilst pregnant though!). I definitely do marmite just for me!!
