I like Everybody Hurts by REM.  Weirdly enough, it makes me cry but brings comfort at the same time.   :?

Other than that I mostly like much older stuff, like Allegri's Miserere and such.  As Rachmaninov's Vespers, and Isle of the Dead.  Lovely music.

October:  from what you say, I think you might like "Yo Yo Ma plays Ennio Morricone".  Emotional, haunting, uplifting and heartbreaking (all). It's a fairly recent release.  Morricone is an Italian composer who writes music for the movies....this one is full of some of his most beautiful music (and Yo Yo Ma's cello is brilliant as usual).

I also love "The Rose" by Bette Midler.  Her version of "From the Distance" is another favorite of mine.  "Everybody Hurts" - REM touches me too.  There are more, but my alltime favorite is the Goo Goo Dolls "Iris".

Songs that hit home

First one- "Since you've been gone" by Kelly Clarkson (American Idol fame).

Favorite lines: "how come I never hear you say, I just want to be with you? I guess you never felt that way...But since you been gone-I can breathe for the first time!  I'm so movin' on-Now I get-What I want!"

*Good song for when you're mad and feelin' feisty!!

And "My Immortal" by Evanescence.

"I'm so tired of being here, suppressed by all my childish fears, And if you have to leave, I wish that you would just leave, 'cause your presence still lingers here, and it won't leave me alone."

"These wounds won't seem to heal, this pain is just to real, There's just to much that time cannot erase. "

"I've tried to so hard to tell myself you're gone, but though you're still here with me, I've been ALONE all along..."

*This song makes me bawl every time I hear it. It's true, So much has happened with me and my ex and some of it you just can't forget overnight. And even when I was with him, he was always so into himself, it was like I was alone. I sang this once at a Karaoke bar and it was hard. I felt like I wrote the words myself. If you're a girl, listen to this song...it'll hit home.

One of my favorites is "Let it Flow' by Toni Braxton.

The words are so fitting to those of us in this situation, but it can really refer to anything not working in your life.

".....if it brings you pain....don't be afraid to let it go"

"Everythings gonna work out right ya know"

The whole song is just full of words of wisdom, but those lines are great themes to live by.

Great song and love Toni Braxton.

I like Maroon 5, "She will be loved"  Here are some of the lyrics:

"I don't mind standing every day out on your corner in the pouring rain but for the girl with the broken smile ask her if she wants to stay awhile.
She will be loved. She will be loved."

"Tap on my window, knock on my door, I want to make you feel beautiful."

"It's not always rainbows and butterflies."

"My door is always open, you come anytime you want."

I was glad to notice that someone else mentioned one of my top songs,

'Positively 4th Street'.  Favorite line: I wish that for just one time you could stand inside my shoes, You'd know what a drag it is to see you.

'Ways to be Wicked' by Lone Justice and written by Tom Petty

'I am a Rock' by Simon and Garfunkel

'Sleeps Dark and Silent Gate'  by Jackson Browne  Favorite line:
Never should I have tried to make love work out, I guess I don't know what love has got to do with happiness, But the times when we were happy were the times we never tried.

'Linger'  by the Cranberries  Favorite line:
If you could get by trying not to lie, things wouldn't be so confused, and I wouldn't feel so used
Those who can do, those who can't bully.
