Just as a matter of interest, why would you not be a friend, just because you speak German?  Surely linguistic skills are morally neutral, rather than indicators of attitude or amicability.  I hope so, anyway.   :)

Hello Munsterlander,
this phrase describes what I have felt from being on this forum.  I have spoken truths I could not speak elsewhere and the sun still came up the next day!
In fact, people here were able to shed light on areas I might never have seen.  This forum is my group and I'm glad I found it (you too!).

oh oh ami i think is french slang for american :)
so in another vernacualr
bit i am a gringo:)
so even ifn ami is used as word for friend
the translation i think
would be
but i am a friend
for i am not an american
would mais je NE suis PAS un ami..
hmmm is the slang come to think of it ricain
or both
and what is ther german slang
ami  ..oh well:)(
