Olympics 2012

I think we should all get training now for the Olympics in 2012, and for the party at my house on opening night, to which you are all invited.

So, which events do you think you will enter?

I think I might go in for the drinking Cafe Latte.  Likely to be tough competition, though.

And I am entering my mum for the NMum marathon.  She deserves a gold medal for that one.   :)

Thanks for mentioning this October. Give me an opportunity to say…..oh dear….I wish they/we would just stop the whole Olympics thing. It’s so primitive, so basic, so stupid, so brawn vs. brain that I’m not glad at all that’s it’s here in London (anyway it's all about MONEY at the end of the day)…..but then, I just don’t ‘get’ any kind of competitive sport, never have done. The idea of someone ‘winning’ something for being a millisecond faster/stronger/more physically agile than someone else (i.e. the ‘loser’ :o)….just doesn’t make any sense to me. In fact it makes me angry!

Do they have boxing :x in the Olympics? I don’t know. But there’s a subject I could bore for England on. ....and on how many men died in building the stuff for the Athens gig. Not good.

Can I go in for the ‘Get rid of the Olympics’ sit-down-with-a-ciggie? :? Or the ‘Longest Rant on a Soapbox’ item?

I would be a strong contender for the "drinking Latte" competition! Next time I'm visiting my relatives up your way October, maybe we could train together!! I would also be a very strong contender for "most tragic adult who likes Harry Potter" competition! I can't believe the competition for the biggest Harry Poter fan was only open to under 16's !! LOL!

Portia,
Well I guess this is one area where we will have to agree to disagree.  I have personally known several Olympic metalists and happen to be a huge fan of both the winter and summer games.  (and yes, they do have boxing, but I avoid that at all costs)  I think there is a great deal of national pride that goes along with Olympians and it is one place where little known sports and their athletes can be highlighted, i.e., women's soccer in the US.

I don't have any "sports" that I can claim any fame for, but I'll be happy to come to London and cheer on you latte drinkers.  I hope you have a lot of bedrooms, October, because I'm sure my kids and all their friends will want to come too.  Better start cleaning now.  :D

We'll worry about that at the point where people actually want to go to sleep.

I have absolutely no sporting ability whatever, but I do like watching some of the events.  Gymnastics; swimming, rowing.   I like it when people cheer the competitots, no matter what country they are from.

Hi Brigid. Thanks for disagreeing. It means you read me!  :DThank you. I disagree about national pride: I can’t see any particular good in it? I mean a deep moral reason. I can see arguments against national pride. But I agree to disagree. If you like, we can PM about it, or I’m just as happy to let it go. Don’t mind really, if you want to discuss, I’m happy too. Best, p
