Strange Therapy ?
« on: September 29, 2005, 04:26:40 AM »
The stories about my abusive T may be getting old by now, however here is something that she said which disturbed and intrigued me.Maybe you guys can comment.

In one sesssion we were talking about God and my beliefs in a greater power. I replied that I hold fairly conventional Christian beliefs and go to meetings regularly.
This seemed to irritate her and she said," Don't you understand that God is in YOU, and not an external force."
I replied,"That is not my belief and it is not the Christian view."
She said," You need to stop being led by others and instead form your own opinions about things -for example ,adultery. What do you think of adultery?"
I did not see the relevance because this issue was not on my agenda and furthermore I was not married.
I just let the conversation drift onto another subject.

It has got me wondering now ..

It sounds weird that she was telling you not to be led by others but also presuming to tell you what to believe at the same time.

 David,

I've never been to therapy so I seldom comment on the subject but, Holy Toledo, I'm pretty sure they're not supposed to try and talk you into a different religion are they?

.

The question is, was she married and was adultery on her agenda? Did she have that 'come hither' look in her eye when she asked you this?
I'm only half joking, but that would explain many of the things she has said to you, especially after you told her to hit the road. When you think about it all of her comments sound a lot more like a jilted lover than a T. They also sound like she is in need of therapy a lot more than you are.
Maybe you should go back to her, only this time she's spilling her guts and you're rubbing your chin knowingly and asking her "How does that make you feel"........oh yeah, and this time she has to pay you. About $2,200 for the first session should cover it, right?

Totally agree.

I'm sorry that now you have this stupid relationship to recover from.  Hope you can just get up and walk away from the car wreck without too much self-doubt.  And I also hope it doesn't turn you off to counseling.  It can help if you find the right one for you.  This one sounds like she was "playing doctor".  Are her diplomas real?  She just sounds like a real quack.

Take care, MP

Wow David! I think your therapist is a clone of my N-therapist. This is the exact thing my N-t said to me. Her goal was NOT allow me to think on mine own rather to rely on her as my god.

Sounds like she had an alterior motive.

Spooky and creepy. She is

I agree-- spooky, creepy, a waste of time.  Does she have actual credentials?  What are they?  You should definitely report her to someone.

There is little that she has said (that you have reported to us) that sounds remotely like an actual professional therapist.  I can't believe she has any actual legit training.  She sounds like someone pretending to be a therapist.

If you can, try to forget her. She doesn't sound very memorable, anyway.

Thanks to all who replies -the more I write and think about T, the more weird it all seems. I had the belief that a pofessional T would ALWAYS say and act in a way that was in the client's best interest. Therefor when she said stuff I assumed that she had a legit reason for saying things and it was all part of the 'therapy'. It NEVER occured to me that she was a freakasoid. I guess that seeing that diploma hanging on the wall gave her a 'ring of confidence'.
I have located her professional organization. However I think that a complaint to them will be like complaining to your mother-in-law about your wife . Worth a try maybe?

Bloopsy, that's absolutely it! The contradiction is crazymaking. You nailed it in under 30 words.

Hi David!

"Freakasoid"?

ROFL.  :D  You sound pretty darn healthy, if you ask me!  And I loved the wife/MIL analogy.  You crack me up.

Seriously, moving forward, would you be comfortable in asking your GP for a referral?  Or your insurance company?  How did you find yourself down the rabbithole with this one?  (I forget if you already said. sorree!)  Just hoping you can steer clear of the Freakasoid Association next time!
