Prima Donnas...
« on: February 28, 2006, 01:10:42 AM »
I have had yet another few days of working with musically creative self-obsessed people, none of whom is remotely talented enough to make a fuss.

Don't tell me musicians are born-again narcissists...is there some kind of fornula...

Well, I dunno...but this made me smile, Write. I'm not sure if you're being tortured by bad opera singers or a bad punk band!
   :P
It WOULD be fun to come up with names for a band made entirely of narcissists...anybody?

Bad Opera Singers is a good name H!

Oh, sometimes I want to scream...people are so rude and unpleasant and one-upping...

I'm going to hibernate for a few days.

Yes!  Don't opera singers warm up by singing, "me, me, me, me, me, me, meeeeeeeeeeeeeee"?

Write....sorry you were with the bottom of the barrel, who think they are the cats' meow.
I was once married to a preening performer.... I can tell you the field is ripe with narcissism (understatement).

However, my son is a musician and maybe because he is still young, he and his friends are very humble. But my husband is a musician, too, and he is the shyest, kindest guy you would ever not notice...

So it must depend on what type of music, how important "status" is in the type or genre......but hey, let's face it, there are jackasses in every field.

I'll make sure I sing 'Only You' at the end of season party!

I'll dedicate to codependents anonymous:

Only you can make this world seem right
Only you can make the darkness bright
Only you and you alone
Can thrill me like you do
And fill my heart with love for only you

Only you can make this change in me
For it's true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand
I understand the magic that you do
You're my dream come true
My one and only you

Only you can make this change in me
For it's true, you are my destiny
When you hold my hand
I understand the magic that you do
You're my dream come true
My one and only you

I'm idly watching "American Idol" and wondering why Barry Manilow is SUCH a nice human being (not my sort of music at all, but he's been a genuine and generous dear working with the contestants)...no indications of Nism or even much ego there.

But other stars? Yikers. Ns we have known and watched and wasted our money on! Now that'd be a list...

from his website:

"I am a musician. My passion for music has obliterated everything in its path for my entire life. Whenever there was a choice between music and anything else, music won hands down every time. No one person or material thing could ever come close to the feeling I get when the music is right. I am totally committed to my music and my fans." - Barry Manilow

I know nothing of his personal life, but there's seemingly a bit of self-obsessed n-ism in all performers!

I love music and it pays my bills, but no, it's not a near-death experience....
