Hopsy, I think you will like this

Hi Hopsy,

I was at Supercuts today getting a trim and picked up the October issue of Glamour for a little dose of fabulous fashion tips.  How amazed I was to discover this article by Evie Ensler, who wrote the Vagina Dialogues.  The article is called "Waiting for Mr. Alligator" and is on page 225.  I highly recommend that you read this article, maybe go to the library and borrow this month's Glamour.  I think you will be so heartened to read it.

There is a Masai woman going to all the Masai tribes in Africa to educate the tribes about female genital mutilation.  She has invented a replacement rite of passage for the young girls, built a house for them to runaway to, if needed, and as a result has saved many, many girls from the razor.  I was so amazed to read about this.  It is a very good article and makes me want to read more by Evie Ensler.  She is something all on her own.

The article also addresses voicelessness and might be interesting to any of us to read.  I was pretty floored by it myself.

Thank you so much, PP!
I will definitely look for it.

Some people say you can't meddle with a culture...but in instances like this...how can you not?

I'm grateful for her.

The cool thing is, the Masai woman who started it, is of the culture herself, was a victim herself, so she completely understands.  Evie's program came to see her work and asked her, "What do you need?"  She needed a car to get to the tribes faster.  So, they bought her a car.  So practical.  Wait till you see the photo accompanying the article.  Such joy.
