Could you please give me more ideas?
« on: February 27, 2007, 06:26:34 AM »
Today is Tuesday. New day. God will help me to have a good day. Hope that my chemicals do not trigger sadness and frustration if some of  my 18 year old students refuse to work or disrespect me. I need to feel well no matter what others do. I do not want to depend on other people’s actions to feel well. I need to feel well on my own. If a teacher does not want to say good morning to me, that has nothing to do with me. I have not done anything wrong. I do not need any external recognition to know that I am a good teacher. I do not need anybody to tell me that I am good, I can say it to my self.
What can I do?
Hops said, meditating, I will start. What does meditate mean? Think what you do, consequences, what you say, etc?  Other member about writing the good things you  have. Try to build friendships.  Build friendships take time, long time.
Meditating I can start as soon as I understand what is meditation. Gym, diet, writing the good things.
What else can we do? Please? Some more ideas?

Hi Lupita

Here is the meditation I used when I had to travel on business - during takeoff and landing on airplanes [which scared me half to death]:

Let nothing disturb thee
Let nothing affright thee
All things pass
God alone remaineth.

It's very old, and it was taught to me by a Carmelite nun. Breathe in while saying the first line to yourself, in your mind, slowly. Then out, while saying the second line. Then in, with the third. Then out, with the last line.

When you get a deep even pattern of breathing and really focus on the words you will find that your whole body relaxes, and so will your mind, but more importantly your soul, because you are praying as you meditate.

Works for me ;-)

Hey Lupita,

Go to the beach in your mind.  I used this and worked well for me.  Picture the scene, hear the seagulls, the waves, you sitting at the edge of the water, the sun making you feel warm.  I use to do this when I felt stressed and do it as people were talking to me. Kept me calm and relaxed.

Look at the Post. Forgot what one I posted on maybe to Nursie?  Or ask Hops about the self Hypnotism in the mirror. She said it's Uber-powerful.

Hope you like the beach.

Love Deb

GOOD for you!

I think you can teach yourself a simple meditation routine just by reading The Relaxation Response by Herbert Benson, MD. It's a very practical and simple guide to how to meditate. I think it's like creating a friendship relationship with your own body, your self...just as you're doing by writing new thoughts like those above.

I think you're doing a great job, Lupita...now you're awake and working at it, not passive and giving up. This is just wonderful to read.

Based on what you say in the first paragraph above, meditation is a good step.  There are lots of books on the subject.  I just finished a good one called "Genuine Happiness" by Alan Wallace.

The kids can't control you unless you let them.   It will take some practice and work but you can learn to not fall into depression, sadness, frustration, just because of the way they act.  They will do what they will do, but you have the choice of how to respond.  And if you respond differently, it would not be surprising if their behavior also changes.

I sometimes think the N's and other difficult people appear in our lives so we can learn these lessons.  Everytime I hear one of my fathers N-ish monologues, its another little test.  Sometimes I even pass the test :)
