Standing up to abusive cops and authorities!
« on: October 08, 2009, 04:46:18 PM »
It works! A cop on a construction site swore at me on the road (he told me to pull over, roll down my window and yelled at me). Instead of ignoring it and crying, I drove straight to the police station to complain about him. The staff was on my side and told me sorry.

Many of us may feel that we have no right to stand up for ourselves to abusive cops, that we won't be taken seriously, or that the cops will do something bad to us if we say something.

I just wanted to let everybody know that there are authorities that do care and won't let others treat you that way. That cop will get in trouble and will get talked to

We don't have to be "voiceless." IT FELT SO GOOD...you have no idea. Something inside me felt that the right thing to do was drive to the police station.  My NM (narcissistic mom) would have told me to "take it" and ignore it." I'm glad I didn't!

It was a bit embarrassing, b/c I was trying to hold back the tears. The cop yelling at me just put me in shock (the body remembers what the mind forgets)...but luckily, the lady at the police station tried to calm me down.

You did GREAT!!!!! I am really proud of you. I know what you mean about the body shaking. I hate that I am that way,but I am.

Thanks,Ami. Do you cry easily too? Even though I've had so much happen to me, I still cry at the slightest thing. :? Maybe it's just a way to relieve stress?

That cop probably thought I was going to let him get away with it and act like a "scared lady," but boy is he in for surprise when the staff talks to him about it. The cop at the station even wrote his name down and everything that I said.

I get stressed very, very easily and I jump at everything. I cry easily, too.
I had an instance with the police where I was shaking but I should not have been cuz it was nothing. I live in a community with a exercise room where children are not allowed.
A guy wanted me to let his children in and I wouldn't . He called the police and they questioned me etc. I was shaking and then hated myself for being a weenie to shake for s/thing like that.
Anyway, we have been damaged by the abuse. I hope I can recover more and more. I am but it seems really slow.

And I can't help but wonder if he would've yelled at a man in quite the same way...
