"Greenberg"
« on: March 28, 2010, 09:17:40 AM »
Screenwriter/director Noah Baumbach apparently is as interested/horrified/experienced with narcissistic characters as the members of this Board are.  “Greenberg” is his second movie focusing on the problems encountered when you set such people loose in the world—the first was the excellent semi-autobiographical “Squid and the Whale”.  His latest film is hard to watch (but not boring) because the protagonist is so destructive to himself and others—but if you go with a friend, there’s plenty to talk about afterwards.

Hi Dr. G.
I liked Squid and The Whale enough to own it. As a college professor we see more than our share of N's like the one in S and W. I was happy to see he had another film out. Thanks for the heards up!

I've heard people say they disliked the film because they disliked the character.  Well, maybe Baumbach is just showing us the portrait of an N, so of course he's unlikable.

Hi Dr G, maybe Baumbach would be interested in my (unwritten) screenplay. Except it might be too tough and unbelievable? If that sounds a little bitter, it's because I am feeling a little bitter right now; I think that's okay though. I have damn good reason to feel that way sometimes. Best to you Dr G.
